SDS Reflection- Nov 19, 10

After completing the SDS inventory about myself, I was able to conclude with 3 highest areas being: E, I and A. Following the identical summary code, I found 2 career options that will best fit me according to the test. They were Communications Consultant and Vendor Quality Supervisor.

Then the codes created by moving around the letters: EAI, IEA, AEI and AIE was left. Some of the options that interested me were: Medical and Scientific Illustrator, Set Designer (Motion Pictures), Patent Agent, Chemical Laboratory Chief and Package Designer.

Some of them were expected in having leadership aspects to them like Supervisor, Director, Manager, Chief, Arranger, and Orchestrator. However, others I did not know. I had Writer as an option (Prose, Fiction and Non-fiction) which was unexpected, along with Package Designer. These are because of the high scores I had for artistic and writing abilities aspects.

Looking at many options, I felt that I am able to enjoy a lot of things because most of my scores were fairly high. Also, if I admit myself to studies, I can choose out of these many options. I was also thankful that the world has a place for me and my talents to be used.

I also saw that what I answered as I like may be what I enjoy doing but not my best talents. I can look at these choices and ponder for a while, but most of the options will not become true.

After seeing the results from this SDS inventory, I was able to see what can be my future career or just some things I might want to check out. I was able to discover that I have more artistic aspect of myself than what I thought and would like to invest more time into it.

My Learning Style Reflection- Nov 17, 10

Looking at the print-out of my learning style quiz results, I was able to find out a few things about myself. I did not have a preference for mostly all of the conditions which I thought was weird. I thought not having an opinion about something is bad, however, Ms. Sayler told me it is fine because I can study in most conditions. Out of all conditions, I had 3 high preferences: Persistence, Responsible and Structure.

As I recall, I believe these results are pretty accurate. When I have started on a project or homework, I mostly finish it all, and then move on to another one. Even if I leave it undone and work on another, I do not like it. I feel that I will forget to finish up or I will run out of time. I also do that because I like to have one great project done than to have 3 okay ones. This is perhaps why I have high preference to be persistent.

Next one was responsible. I agree with this one because one of my strength that I chose was this. In classes, it is usual to find myself writing on my planner and thinking about my schedule. I like to be organized and structured. I need to know what is coming up and I need to get done. When I get these responsibilities taken care of, I am able to focus better.

Mentioned previously, I am a structured person. I like to have a set schedule with minor things changing once in awhile to keep myself responsible and organized. I do not think that I am a perfectionist in all times but I do like to get things done well that I will be happy with the final work. Whether that means spending a few more hours than others, I feel better when I accomplish what I have planned.

My Personality Type Reflection- Nov 15, 10

Today, I was able to find out what specific careers I am interested. Some of them were: Government and Law, Sports and Entertainment, The Arts, Business, Management, and Finance, and at last, Communication and Media.

I believe this quiz helped me in pointing out my strengths and weaknesses which I mostly agree with. The results were fairly accurate and directed me in specific areas to study.

I have been thinking about quite a lot of these careers: Government and Law, Business, Management, and Finance, and Communication Media. However, Sports and Entertainment and the Arts were a little surprising.

I did not consider them for a career because I only did them for hobby. It was interesting to see different choices I have.

Reflection- Nov 14, 10

I have learned some things about myself through first few classes of career planning. I was able to put the reasons of choosing careers in order of importance and reflect on why I thought such way.

My first 10 career values in order of importance are the following:

  1. Having a set routine

  2. Being secure

  3. Influencing others

  4. Helping others

  5. Being responsible

  6. Being successful

  7. Being important

  8. Being respected

  9. Fitting in

  10. Having a good reputation

I chose that having a set routine is most importance because time management is very important to me. When I have my schedule in order, I will feel balanced and in control of my actvities.

Being secure is my second career value because if I do not feel safe at work, I will not want to spend several hours there.

Influencing others will be my third choice because I like to interact with others and see how they will think and feel about my beliefs. I want to influence them in a positive way, and if possible to someday tell them about Christ.

Helping others was my fourth choice because at the end of the day, that will be something that I will not regret spending my time for. Even if I earn all the money, neglecting to help out people around me, I know I will not feel great.

Then the others follow as being responsible, successful, important and respected. I think I would like to be responsible because if no one cared about the work I do or if I do any work, that will be sad. Also, I will like to be a successful and important business woman. I want to do my best and be respected in the area of my studies.

Last two values are fitting in and having a good reputation. I want to interact with people at work and fit in. I would like to develop good relationships that will carry out to friendships and outside of work. As well, I want to have a good reputation because I want to be a role model of working woman and most importantly, a good Christian.

Looking at my 10 important values in choosing my job was helpful to learn more about myself.

My Talents?- Nov 10, 10

I believe some important talents I am given are: being organized, taking risks/ being brave, being a leader and being willing to serve.

First of all, I value the organization skills I have. It is important because even if I am not super good at some areas in school, if I keep good notes and organize my ideas well, it is easier to succeed. For example, I am not so good at math, however having neat notes help me to get prepared for the tests and I am able to receive good grades.

Secondly, taking risks and being brave is a talent I have. When people are afraid to try new things or volunteer in something, I am most likely to go for it. I am mostly not afraid to make mistakes and that is a talent I was given.

Next, I believe I am a leader. Looking at the Skills List, I was able to check off many of the lists. I am able to organize and lead a conversation or a project. I can also be self-motivated and demonstrate what we are trying to acheieve as a group. In many different areas, I have learned that I am a leader and I enjoy my roles in different groups such as Student Council.

Last but not least, being willing to serve is a talent. I have participated in many service activities in and out of school and have learned that I enjoy them a lot. In past, I have participated in 30 Hour Famine- 6th, 7th and 8th grade, went on MS LASA Trips- 6th and 7th grade and am currently in Serving Hands and in LASA Trip- Thailand group. I also serve in school both big and small like reaching out to people who are quiet and lonely or cleaning after others in lunch.

These are some talents I have learned and am working hard to develop.

Thought Questions- Nov 08, 10

  • How do you plan on choosing a career?
I think I will consider a job that will keep me satisfied and happy. Although money is important in life, my daily activities and feelings are more important. As well, even if the job I choose will not make me super rich, I will learn to be satisfied with the money I have and make a good use of them.
  • Does your gender make a difference?
I believe the gender makes a difference. I know that I will get married and have children and if I have to work full time and be really busy, my life will not be balanced. Also, I do not plan to quit my job after having children so having a job that I will be able to continue with, is necessary.
  • Who will help you choose a career?
My parents will have a big say in this because they have gone through this and know me very well. Although they may not know exactly how I feel about different subjects and believe differently, they will most likely want the best for me and suggest good ideas. My close friends can help as well because they know what I will do in different situations and be happy.
  • Can the bible offer any help?
In my opinion, I say yes. Christianity is a big part of my identity. If I choose a career based on how people will think of me, how much money I will make (for my selfish ambition) and have other reasons that are not just, the Bible will remind me to change the way I think. The Bible keeps me on the safe path and works as a great reminder to have good motives. The Bible will offer a lot of help for me in checking if the job matches with my morals and beliefs.
